O’ God, we bow our hearts and our heads as we mourn with the men and women of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department in the tragic loss of Deputy Brandon Sikes. First, Lord, we want to bring before Your Throne of Grace Deputy Gavin White who was seriously wounded. As he is being treated at a local hospital, may You continue to provide him with the best medical care. May the doctors treating him be granted wisdom to use their training, education and experience to diagnose the extent of this officer’s injuries and then apply the correct treatment to bring about a full recovery. O’ God, spare the life of this peace officer. As countless co-workers and family members are at the hospital supporting him, may each sense Your sweet presence in their heart, mind and spirit that it is You who are carrying them through this time of uncertainty. May Your peace that passes all understanding settle in their hearts right now. And as the family and friends of Deputy Sikes are deeply brokenhearted, may You wrap Your Arms around them, and may they know You will never leave them nor forsake them through this ordeal and in the days to come. May every member of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department and family members of all involved deeply and intimately sense and know Your love, grace, peace, mercy, comfort and most of all Your Presence in their hearts. As this incident is being investigated, may You grant the investigators with supernatural wisdom to gather the facts and determine the motive behind this attack on Your Servant-peacemakers—who were doing their God-ordained job as a peace officer. We are thankful the suspect is no longer a threat. Lord, may Your eternal words bring comfort to anyone in need as follows, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” And, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” Finally, in the coming days as the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department make preparations to say a final farewell to their co-worker, may Your amazing grace touch the thousands of lives affected and draw many unto the love of Your Son Jesus in whom is everlasting peace. May You raise up Godly officers and others to share Your love with any officer or family member. And if Deputy White does not know You as Savior and Lord, may You speak to his heart and draw him unto Your side. May You allow him to receive You into his heart as Savior and Lord. May Your name be glorified through this tragedy, in the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
