Badge Pinning

The badge pinning ritual is a solemn, yet festive occasion among many law enforcement agencies when a recruit graduates from their training academy. The badge, oftentimes pinned by their Chief or a family member, symbolizes their accomplishments, responsibilities and future challenges.
When a uniformed law enforcement officer is on the job interacting with the public, the display of their badge is a symbol of their authority and responsibility.
Similarly, like the badge, rings displayed on the hands of a husband and wife project their commitment and responsibility to each other.
Although law enforcement officers are required to know many different laws from the penal code, vehicle code, etc., the Apostle Paul gave husbands and wives some wise words of counsel on the topic of marriage. He said, “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord….Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy…” (Ephesians 5:21-33)
There is a common thread that occurs between those who display the badge and those who display their wedding rings—that is, both will equally experience joys, successes, bumps, failures and trials. But foremost within a marriage, God has designed the man to be the leader—and his leadership (or lack thereof) will set the tone for the entire family for years to come.
When a law enforcement officer is hired, in addition to taking the oath of office, most (if not all) are also required to recite the code of ethics as follows: “On my honor, I will never betray my badge, my integrity, my character, or the public trust. I will always have the courage to hold myself and others accountable for our actions. I will always uphold the constitution of my community and the agency I serve."
As a law enforcement officer vows to maintain integrity, character and public trust, when a man and woman marry, they vow “…to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do [they] part.”
Because marriage has been created by God, He has designed the husband to be the leader in the relationship and, likewise, model these following Godly principles:
To be a Godly leader1
To love his wife unconditionally2
To serve his wife humbly3
So, because the husband was designed by God to be the spiritual head of the home, wouldn’t it be awesome if every man led by Christ’s example?
As it is the husband who sets the tone in a marital relationship, may he always remember that famous saying, “Attitude Reflects Leadership, Captain.”4
