No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.
6 “Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.
7 “Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.
8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:5-9
Joshua was being called to fill a position of incredible importance that also came with incredible responsibility and accountability. Moses, Gods great leader of the children of Israel, was dead. God called Joshua to replace Moses and continue leading Gods people. Joshua had followed and observed all that God had done through Moses. He saw the incredible power and work God did through Moses. He saw the plagues upon Pharaoh and Egypt. He saw the parting of the Red Sea and crossing on dry land. Joshua saw and experienced all that God did in and through Moses, and now God is calling Joshua to continue in Moses footsteps.
I can’t help but think Joshua felt completely overwhelmed for this calling. It’s one thing to be a disciple or an apprentice and see and experience such miraculous works, but when you’re asked to step out in faith and continue that kind of work, there’s no doubt it came with a heavy weight. Joshua could have argued, rebelled and refused. Instead, he trusted. He put his hand to the plow that God had given him and went to work. By faith Joshua continued to lead millions of Gods people to the land and provision God had promised them years before. Joshua didn’t look at any perceived insufficiencies he may have had, he kept his eye on God and Gods promise: “for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go..”
Has God called you to what seems to be an impossible task? Is God calling you to continue a ministry like He did Joshua or maybe start something completely new and you have no idea how to do it? This happened to many great servants we see in scripture. Noah was called to build an “Ark” because a great “flood” was coming. The problem with this calling is there had never been a flood or an Ark before. Yet Noah was faithful and God provided. God will do the same with and for you. Is God calling you? Is God calling you to take a few hundred to fight thousands like He did Gideon? If so, GO..!!! God is faithful. He will never leave nor forsake you and He will always be with you and provide for you wherever He calls you to go..!
