7 You were running the race so well. Who has held you back from following the truth?
8 It certainly isn’t God, for He is the One who called you to freedom.
9 This false teaching is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough!
10 I am trusting the Lord to keep you from believing false teachings. God will judge that person, whoever he is, who has been confusing you.
Galatians 5:7-10(NLT)
Paul is writing to the Galatians because he heard they were drifting from the truth of scripture. The Galatians were drifting back into adherence to the law and legalism instead of grace and salvation by faith in Christ. There’s going to be people and churches trying to draw you away from the inerrant and infallible truth of Gods Word. These are charlatans and their churches are cults. If a man steps into a pulpit without a bible, beware. He may claim to be teaching truth but how would you know if he isn’t preaching and teaching directly from Gods Word?
Paul asks a serious question and gives clarification in verses 7-8: “You were running the race so well. Who has held you back from following the truth? It certainly isn’t God, for He is the One who called you to freedom..” The reason people get led away from truth is the teaching of additional doctrine disguised as biblical truth. The Mormons push the ”Book of Mormon” and actually call it “Another Testament of Jesus Christ.” This may sound harmless until you hold it up to Revelation 22:18-19: “For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”
Following Christ requires us to study God’s Word and prayer for the wisdom, knowledge and understanding that comes from the Holy Spirits leading. Church leaders that try to add other books, doctrines and man made traditions to the Bible are liars and heretics. The Bible is all you need. In 2Timothy 3:16-17, Paul wrote: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” In John 17:17, Jesus said: “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your Word is truth.” Never take what you hear from the pulpit. Always hold it up to scripture and that includes this devo..! Never allow the “leaven” of others books or beliefs to enter your heart and mind! The Bible, Gods Word, is true and sufficient..⚔️
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart..”
Hebrews 4:12”
